Explaining My Point of View

I was inspired to write this because of my unintentional recent controversy on Facebook. Very basically, I posted about the Charlie Kirk assassination. I called him racist, a bigot and full of hatred. Full disclosure, I have not listened to a ton of his stuff. So, I am basing my opinion off limited knowledge. I should take my own advice and give him a fair shake.

All of that being said, I went on to make my main point that as terrible as he might (or might not) have been as a fellow human being, he didn't deserve to be murdered in cold blood. The guy that murdered him, put himself in an indefensable position. You can't ever justify murder, regardless of how much you disagree with someone.

Shortly after writing my post, it seemed like everyone had an opinion. People who were defending Charlie Kirk and those against him. Everyone ignored the point that I was trying make about befriending those whom we disagree with. I also don't believe that violence is ever the answer.

My uncle (mom's younger brother) said that posting online is like having two groups of people screaming at each other and you in the middle, calmly trying to explain something while no one is listening to you. I agree with his assessment. It saddens me that my point was lost in the noise and the only thing that I accomplished was pitting the pro Charlie Kirk group against the anti Charlie Kirk group. I wish we could get back to being able to be friends with people who don't share our exact world view.

Til next time, Tyler
