I am excited about the possibility that the use of the pons device (Portable neuromodulation stimulator device) will help improve my balance, stability and mobility. I have written a separate blog post all about the pons device which I will be posting later.
I have enjoyed my time at home in Texas with my parents. I have had the opportunity to go see my extended family, my last remaining grandma and my friends. I have made serious progress with my balance, stability and mobility, that I am certain I never would have made had I stayed in Pamplona Spain.
At first, when I got back home to Texas, I didn't see any progress and I thought it would be a waste of time and money. However, Jenny specifically knew that this was the right thing for me before I even knew that it was the best decision for me. I am forever grateful for Jenny knowing what is best for me even when I didn't know that it was the best decision for me.
As I burn through the rest of my time here in Texas, I will continue working hard on exercising, I will be continuing to give my English classes and I will be spending my last days here, visiting my family, extended family and friends. However, I am excited to get back to normal life with Jenny and Eliana Valentina.
If everything goes according to plan, I will be walking unassisted by my 42nd birthday. I am trying not to get my hopes up to high. However, I am hopeful that it will work. I will continue my exercise (regardless if the pons device works for me or not) because physical exercise is the only thing that I have found that keeps my brain active and connected, in addition to being good for my general health.
I have spent 41 years of my life being determined initially, but losing my motivation after a few months. However, for the first time in my life, I am confident that I will stay consistent and committed to my exercise, not just for a few weeks but for the rest of my life. Currently, I am exercising six days a week for between 1.5 to 2 hours each session.
Assuming that the pons device works for me, I will exercise only five days a week and I will take weekends off. If the pons device doesn't work out for me then I will continue working out six days a week (only taking Sunday off as a rest day). This is my plan that I will be sticking to for the remainder of my life.
I can totally understand the skepticism from my family and friends and those who know me well. After all, I am trying to change a 41 year old pattern of behavior, being initially motivated and then quitting after a few months with no one to push me. However, for the first time in my life, I am confident that I will continue exercising for the rest of my life. It will not be easy, but nothing that is worth it ever is.
